Matteo Valentinuz works with UNHCR in the Territorial Commission for international protection in Trieste. Given the increasing number of asylum seekers in Europe, he served as consultant of the Italian government providing support and legal advice on Refugee and Human Rights Law. Previously, Matteo participated in the roll-out of the European Relocation program.
In the course of the years, Matteo assisted Syrian nationals seeking refuge in the Middle East and specifically addressed the protection needs of those facing detention and risk of deportation.
Prior joining UNHCR, he has assisted victims of torture with AMERA (Egypt) and was involved in research projects on transitional justice.
Matteo holds a Master of Laws (LLM) in Public and International Criminal Law (Amsterdam Law School, The Netherlands).
Matteo is married and father of two children.
